After a wildly exciting Passion for Speed Festival Evapco SA (Pty) Ltd Historic Racing South Africa are set to descend on Redstar Raceway on 23 March for round 2 of the 2024 Championship.
In Class B Andre van der Merwe in his Evapco SA (Pty) Ltd Porsche RSR will hope take a double victory on the day while avoiding some of the mechanical issues he had in Round 1 at Zwartkops. Van der Merwe has shown the Porsche has great pace in his capable hands, the only way anyone will be able to catch him is through error. With the potential of rain on the day, the chances of a mistake are always elevated, nevertheless we will have to wait with anticipation to see how the race pans out.
Class C will see the Scirocco battle resume from the last round at Zwartkops. Jannie van Rooyen in his VW Scirocco is the man to beat with Andre ten Napel in his TNMC Medical Devices VW Scirocco and Stuart Konig in his Northern Bolt & Tool VW Scirocco hot on the heals of the super experienced van Rooyen. This should make for an absolutely thrilling race from start to end.
Coming to the ultra-competitive Class D Gavin Lundin in his Silvergaurd Datsun 1200 GX, as the reigning champion, will look to assert his dominance on the championship. He will have his work cut out for him with his fellow Class D competitors always showing competitive pace. There will be plenty of overtaking and exciting racing as Jonathan Konig in his Northern Bolt & Tool VW Scirocco, Terence Ladner in his Hamilton’s VW Scirocco, Travis Jensen in his Hamilton’s Datsun 1200 GX and Franz Jensen in his Hamilton’s Datsun 1200 GX will all look for ways to gain the upper hand on one another.
Class E arguably the most competitive classes in HRSA will see the likes of Sean Hepburn in his AA Datsun 1200DL, Peder Jensen Hamilton’s Datsun 1200 GX, Michael Lundin in a Silvergaurd Datsun 1200 GX, John McLachlan in his Hamilton’s Datsun 1200 GX, Louis Cloete in his Automotive Racing Components VW Beetle and Grant Cramer in his Jensen Towing Datsun 1200 GX all battling it out for the top step of the podium. This group is always extremely close with wheel-to-wheel action throughout the race. This is one not to be missed.
Class F will consist of Cameron Foster in his Jensen Towing Datsun 1200 GX, who put on a great spectacle at Zwartkops getting his car sideways at any given opportunity, taking on Shane McLachlan in his Datsun 1200 GX. With the driving skill of these two individuals and the sideways sliding driving style, this pair is sure to go down as a crowd favourite.
Evapco SA (Pty) Ltd HRSA always puts on a great show and we expect nothing less going into this weekend. We encourage all enthusiasts to come through to witness the racing on track and check out the cars more closely in the pits. You will not be disappointed.
